Art Therapy Emotional Groups

Format: 6–8 person groups / Class workshops / Parent-child groups / One-to-one individual counselling

Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours per session

Group Philosophy:

Through a variety of art media — including painting, clay, crafts, puppets and model-making — children are invited to express themselves safely and explore their inner world in a judgement-free creative process. In this space, they learn to recognise and regulate their emotions.

Group Objectives:

  • Enhance expression: Use different art media to give form to emotions that are difficult to put into words.
  • Promote emotional regulation: Relieve stress and reduce anxiety through the creative process, and learn healthy ways of managing feelings.
  • Strengthen social interaction: Collaborate with peers in group creation to develop empathy, cooperation and interpersonal skills.
  • Foster self-awareness: Explore the inner world through art so that children better understand their own feelings and needs.

Suitable For:

  • Children experiencing emotional fluctuations or distress
  • Children going through family changes or difficulties
  • Children with special educational needs (SEN)
  • Highly sensitive children, or those who find social interaction or emotional expression challenging

Board Game Social Skills Groups

Format: 6–8 person groups

Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours per session

Group Philosophy:

Using board games as the medium, children practise social skills naturally in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Through structured, rule-based play, they learn turn-taking, sharing, cooperation and how to handle winning and losing, while gaining a better understanding of themselves and others.

Group Objectives:

  • Learning through play: Acquire core social skills in a light-hearted environment through board games.
  • Emotional regulation training: Learn to recognise, express and manage emotions, reduce conflict and anxiety, and develop resilience in the face of setbacks.
  • Enhance interpersonal interaction: Build empathy, a spirit of sharing, communication skills and problem-solving abilities through group games and activities.
  • Build confidence: Encourage positive expression of thoughts and needs, strengthening self-worth and a sense of achievement.

Suitable For:

  • Children with weaker social skills who find it difficult to build peer relationships
  • Children who tend to be self-centred and struggle with turn-taking and sharing
  • Children who experience emotional fluctuations or easily get into conflict over small matters
  • Children with special educational needs (SEN)

Literacy Support Groups

Format: 4–8 person groups

Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours per session

Group Philosophy:

Grounded in multi-sensory and game-based learning, this group moves beyond traditional copying and drill-based approaches. Through visual, auditory, tactile and kinaesthetic art and play media — such as forming characters with clay, visual storytelling and body spelling — children with literacy difficulties can rebuild interest in and connection with written language in a relaxed, pressure-free environment, while strengthening foundational literacy skills.

Group Objectives:

  • Increase interest in literacy: Reduce resistance and anxiety towards reading and writing through multi-sensory games, and rekindle learning motivation.
  • Strengthen literacy foundations: Teach concrete strategies for character recognition, memorisation and reading, focusing on form, sound and meaning.
  • Improve learning strategies: Develop practical skills such as breaking down characters, visual memory and organisation to enhance academic performance.
  • Build confidence and expression: Affirm self-worth through successful experiences and creative art-making, encouraging children to express themselves more freely.

Suitable For:

  • Children suspected of or assessed with dyslexia
  • Children who struggle to keep up academically and have difficulties with character recognition, dictation or reading comprehension
  • Children who lack interest or confidence in learning Chinese
